California Proposition 65 Information

California Prop 65 Warning

WARNING
Cancer and Reproductive Harm
www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

You may have noticed this graphic on our products and at various points throughout our website and catalogs. This warning became mandatory for many products shipped to California due to the 1986 California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, commonly referred to as Proposition 65 (Prop 65).

What is it?

Prop 65 establishes a policy that is maintained and enforced by the California Office of Environment Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). OEHHA maintains a list of over 1,000+ chemicals or elements (as of February 2020, the list grows every year) that are believed by the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Prop 65 mandates that products that contain one or more of those 1,000+ chemicals or elements bear the Prop 65 warning in order to inform consumers of the possible danger.

Why the warning?

At Mid-Fifty, we care about our customers and their safety. We strive to comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Prop 65 aims to warn and inform consumers about potentially hazardous materials or chemicals. A company is required to include the Prop 65 warning for any product it is aware or believes may contain one of the chemicals or elements listed by OEHHA. The warning does not necessarily mean that a product is dangerous.

Since our catalog comprises thousands of individual parts, many with different sub-components or assemblies, it would be impossible for us, as a small company, to test all of our products and satisfy the requirements of OEHHA. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, like many other manufacturers and distributors, we have elected to include this warning on all of our products.

At Mid-Fifty we believe that all of our products offered are safe when used for their intended purpose. An OEHHA warning does not mean that a product is unsafe or in violation of any product safety standards or requirements. Per the California government, "You could think of Proposition 65 more as a 'right to know' law than a pure product safety law."
